Short description:

The goal of the CLIM-SED project is to develop nature-based river engineering measures in the Austrian-Slovak border region (Danube and Morava) to minimize flooding and drought (climate change adaptation). The measures include river and sediment management to improve the ecological status of water bodies. Through innovative exhibitions, events, and awareness-raising initiatives in Vienna and Bratislava (“Twin City Approach”), the project reaches various stakeholders: pupils, educators, students, experts, and local decision-makers. The focus is on a holistic approach and comprehensive strategies for raising awareness and building capacity among the population.

Offers & activities for Viennese schools (lower secondary):

  • 3-part workshop series for teachers on the use of theater-based teaching methods in (STEM) classes with a focus on the environment and sustainability (with a focus on water)
  • 1 exclusive tour for teachers of the hydraulic engineering laboratory – the “RiverLab” – a modern research facility at BOKU Vienna
  • 8 workshops for school classes in the “RiverLab” focusing on “sustainable water management”
  • 1 pedagogical concept for environmental education and awareness raising for the learning and exhibition stations of the “RiverLab”
  • 1 day excursion for Viennese teachers to Slovakia for cross-border networking and professional exchange in the field of STEM
