Short description:
The project HUBsburg – TwinSmart aims to strengthen the resilience and innovation potential of the cross-border Austria–Slovakia region through education, with a focus on developing key 21st-century skills. The emphasis is on STEM subjects (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
While the Slovak partners focus on digital skills, the Vienna-based activities prioritize the topic of “biodiversity.” Through the practical use of raised beds in teaching, climate, environmental, and sustainability competencies among Viennese teachers and young people are promoted.
The shared goal is to prepare young people and the regions for future challenges such as technological change, climate change, and global competitiveness through innovative educational approaches.
Through cross-border exchange between schools, universities, and research institutions, the quality of teaching methods is improved and new educational formats are developed. In this way, HUBsburg – TwinSmart supports international cooperation and innovation in the region.
Activities & offers for Viennese schools (grades 6-8):
- Equipping 14 schools with raised garden beds, worm composting boxes and soil analysis kits
- Workshop series for teachers on the topic of “Raised garden beds and biodiversity”
- 10 workshops for school classes on the topic of “Our raised garden bed at school”
- Further training opportunities for teachers and workshops for school classes on biodiversity and ecological interrelationships as well as soil and plant sciences and climate protection.
- 2 collaborations between schools and Viennese allotment garden associations for biodiversity monitoring
- 20 exchange visits for school classes in the form of excursion days in Vienna and Bratislava
- A wide range of online seminars and online workshops are offered for the social environment (parents) of the pupils.
