Short description::

The “Signs for Education” project addresses the inadequate educational situation faced by deaf people in the Czech Republic and Austria. Its overarching goal is to improve barrier-free access to education for deaf children from the start of their schooling and to enhance their educational and employment prospects. The project involves developing around 300 teaching materials—packaged as an early literacy kit—specifically tailored to the structural, visual, and linguistic learning needs of deaf children in the first stage of primary education. These materials are grounded in scientific insights from the field of Deaf Didactics. This means they are structured to align with the way deaf people perceive information and incorporate sign language via video content.
A key aspect of this cross-border collaboration is revitalizing networks among deaf communities, school authorities, schools, teachers, parents, and deaf schoolchildren within the Czech-Austrian Interreg programme region.
The planned cross-border cooperation not only strengthens educational opportunities for deaf children but also underscores the importance of accessible education within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021–2030.
