A green kickoff for our Interreg SK-AT project HUBsburg-TwinSmart in May 2026:Right at the start of the project, we equipped 15 Viennese schools with new raised garden beds to make nature and biodiversity tangible in the urban environment.In interactive workshops, the participating classes learned everything they needed to know about the raised garden bed ecosystem – from the correct layering of soil to the ideal selection of plants for greater biodiversity.The newly acquired knowledge was immediately put into practice with great enthusiasm, and the students planted their new beds entirely on their own! First STEM AFTERWORK – Networking, Innovation, and Practical Application
Our first STEM AFTERWORK event took place on May 11, 2026, in the ceremonial hall of the Board of Education and offered around 50 Viennese teachers exciting insights into the Interreg project eTOM AT-CZ. The event was opened by the Head of the Pedagogical Department, Ulrike Mangl, who thanked all the pilot schools for their commitment and emphasized the importance of promoting STEM subjects in all grades.Innovative presentations and hands-on workshops demonstrated how international cooperation can enrich STEM education. Experiencing Europe on Mariahilfer Straße
On 9 May 2026, Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna became a vibrant meeting place for European diversity and we were part of it! Numerous countries, organizations, and EU-funded projects presented their work through information stands, cultural performances, and culinary highlights. The event was organized by the European Youth Association and Vienna goes Europe.The European Office of the Board of Education participated with its own information stand, presenting a wide range of educational materials for schools as well as teaching resources developed through EU-funded programmes. Vocational Education in Action: Expanding Horizons through Erasmus+

Vienna and Bratislava are programming their shared future
12 schools, two cities, one vision: The “ICE Robotics” project brings together pupils from Vienna and Bratislava to prepare them for the world of tomorrow.Six schools each from Vienna and Bratislava became part of the ICE Robotics Network and visited each other alternately from March 2025 to June 2026. Each pilot class was equipped by us with three state-of-the-art 3D printers and 15 comprehensive sets of learning robots, which can also be used for modern teaching methods in the future. Diversity unites: Successful project conclusion “Diversity – Strengthening Diversity”
With a celebratory closing event on June 8, 2026 our Erasmus+ project “Diversity – Strengthening Diversity” officially came to an end after two successful years. Together with our Director of the Board of Education, Elisabeth Fuchs, we looked back on numerous experiences, encounters, and achievements:As part of the project, we were able to inspire another 14 Viennese schools to participate in Erasmus+, mobilize more than 100 teachers, and visit 25 schools in five European countries.Particularly gratifying: Vienna leads the way in Austria with 107 Erasmus+ accreditations in school education, and 10 schools from this project group have now received their ...
Brussels Challenge 2026: Experiencing Europe Through Encounters
How can Europe become a tangible experience for young people? For eleven students from Viennese vocational schools, the answer in early June 2026 was clear: through encounters, exchange, and collaborative learning with a partner class from Antwerp. As part of the Interreg project eTOM-AT HU, we visited innovative educational institutions in Hamburg in mid-June 2026 together with project partners from Vienna, Lower Austria, and Hungary – from kindergartens and schools to universities. Education in global dialogue – international delegations visit Vienna
During the 2025/26 school year, a total of 265 people from various education authorities visited our schools as part of 19 international delegations. In addition to observing lessons at Viennese schools, we organized expert presentations for our guests and jointly reflected on the different school systems and institutional frameworks. The focus was on current educational policy and pedagogical topics such as democratic education and active citizenship, diversity and inclusion, as well as migration and multilingualism.
